A cloud app is a program that functions in the cloud, rather than entirely on a single device in a single location. These apps are stored in a remote location and are delivered to users via the Internet. While cloud apps are certainly beneficial for business purposes, they are obviously impacting every area of our lives, helping us simplify tasks and organize ourselves in new ways. These benefits have even extended to Thanksgiving, and we’ve found some great apps that will help you make it through this hectic holiday with a smile on your face.
Pinterest is especially helpful in the planning phase of Thanksgiving, as it’s full of ideas for recipes, activities and decorations for when the family comes. Better yet, it’s easy to navigate. Simply type in what you’re looking for in the search bar, and you’ll be given plenty of Thanksgiving ideas. And if you’re not sure what you’re looking for, you can browse by categories.
Thanksgiving: A Bon Appetit Manual
This app includes 101 Thanksgiving recipes, plus tips, how-tos and videos to help make yours the best meal. And if you have traditional recipes you stick to every year, you can at least head to this app for some awesome photos that will make you ready to get cookin’. There are TONS of other apps like this out there, so don’t be afraid to explore!
Instacart
Instacart helps you save some time in your Thanksgiving prep. With the app, you can create a grocery list and order everything you need from local stores, including Whole Foods and Costco, and have them delivered when you want them, in as little as an hour. This helps you save a good chunk of time, which is especially helpful if you’re the one hosting Thanksgiving dinner.
KitchenPad Timer
If you’ve ever helped cook the Thanksgiving meal, you know there’s a lot going on in the kitchen at once. More often than not, the timer on your microwave or oven just doesn’t cut it when you have dozens of dishes cooking at once. That’s what KitchenPad Timer is for. It runs multiple timers, using a visual of five stove burners and four ovens to help you organize. You can label each one and designate different alarm sounds and temperatures you’ll be using.
NFL Mobile
There’s always someone in the family that’s a football fan and will need to keep track of the turkey day games. NFL Mobile tracks real-time stats of each down, shows diagrams of current plays and allows you to track how your fantasy team is performing. The app also includes limited live video and audio of select games, so you can stay in the action while you’re inhaling your favorite stuffing.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Another favorite Thanksgiving tradition for many families is watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Macy’s has released a new app allowing users to interact with the parade. You can tap and scroll through video clips of the classic balloons, create your own parade balloons of yourself using your phone’s camera, and get behind-the-scenes access to the annual parade.
Songza
It’s difficult to please everyone when it comes to music, but Songza makes it a bit easier by helping you play the right music at the right time. With the “Music Concierge,” you can choose music based on your mood or activity. It lets you choose a theme, like “Pleasing a Crowd” or “Dinner Party: Formal” and automatically plays a playlist. And if the mood changes, you can simply pick a new theme.
Heads Up!
Heads Up! is the popular charades-esque game from Ellen Degeneres. The goal is to guess the word on the phone or device that you hold to your forehead, based on your family and friends’ clues, before the timer runs out. The more correct guesses, the better you do! Categories range from naming celebrities, singing, accents, animal noises and more. This is a great game for Thanksgiving Day, once everyone’s bellies are full. It gets loud, it gets goofy, and it helps bring everyone together.
Black Friday 2014
Are you a die-hard Black Friday shopper? There are tons of Black Friday apps, but a great one to bring your planning to the next level is Black Friday 2014. This app helps you plan your shopping outing, as it features the latest news and alerts about sales and doorbusters and the ability to search for low prices by category.
